Terms of Service
Last updated 22 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Sum Effort at makesumeffort.com. Sum Effort is run by Oarsman Software Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16652196, registered office Unit 82a, James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds, England, IP28 7DE. You can contact us at hello@makesumeffort.com.
- Free trackers are free. A paid upgrade lasts 12 months, and you can have a full refund within 14 days.
- Sum Effort shows progress. It doesn't collect or hold donations, and we don't check the numbers people enter.
- You're responsible for what you put on your pages, and tracker pages are public.
- Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.

1. Accounts
- Organisers register with a name, email address and password, and create trackers. You must be 18 or over to register as an organiser or buy an upgrade.
- Participants join an individual tracker with a display name and password, when its organiser allows it. A participant login only works on that one tracker.
- Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your login.
- Give a real email address. We use it to contact you about your account and any payments, never for marketing.
2. Free and paid trackers
- Free trackers have a horizontal progress bar in standard colours, and only the organiser can add contributions.
- A paid upgrade adds participant logins, a leaderboard, a vertical bar, your logo and your own colours to one tracker for 12 months from the day you pay. Paying again adds another 12 months to the end of the current period.
- The price is the one shown at checkout. Payments are taken by our payment provider, Stripe; we never see your card details.
- When a paid period ends, the tracker stays online read-only, showing its final total, and stops taking new contributions. You can reopen it by paying again.
- We may change what the free tier includes, or our prices for future purchases. We won't shorten or take features away from a paid period you've already bought.
3. Refunds
- If you change your mind, email hello@makesumeffort.com within 14 days of paying and we'll refund you in full, even if you've already used the paid features. The tracker then goes back to being a free tracker.
- Refunds go back to the card you paid with. Banks usually take 5 to 10 working days to show them.
- After 14 days, payments aren't refundable unless Sum Effort hasn't worked as described, or the law gives you a right to a refund. If something's gone wrong, tell us and we'll put it right.
4. What Sum Effort is, and isn't
- Sum Effort displays totals that organisers and participants type in. It doesn't take, hold or pass on donations or money of any kind, and we don't check that totals are accurate.
- If you're raising money, you're responsible for how you collect it, and for following any law, regulator guidance or charity rules that apply to your fundraising.
- Don't present a tracker as raising money for a charity or cause unless you're entitled to.
5. Your content
- "Your content" means the titles, descriptions, logos, names, contributions and notes you add.
- You keep ownership of it. You give us permission to store, copy, resize and display it, worldwide and free of charge, for as long as we need to run Sum Effort for you.
- You confirm you have the right to use everything you upload or enter, including logos and other people's names.
- Tracker pages are public. Anyone with the link can see a tracker's title, description, logo, totals and, if switched on, the leaderboard's names and totals. Notes on contributions are only shown to the organiser. Don't put anything private on a tracker.
6. Rules
Don't use Sum Effort to:
- break the law, or help anyone else to;
- mislead people about a fundraiser, who it's for, or who's running it;
- post anything hateful, harassing, threatening, sexual, violent or defamatory;
- publish someone's personal information without their permission;
- upload anything you don't have the right to use, or anything containing malicious code;
- pretend to be someone else;
- get into accounts that aren't yours, get around our payment system, or test, overload or attack the service;
- collect data from Sum Effort using automated tools.
We may remove content, or suspend a tracker or account, that breaks these rules. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to fix it. If we close an account for a serious or repeated breach, we won't refund the rest of its paid period, except where the law requires us to.
7. Children
Trackers are often used for school and club events. If yours involves children under 13, use first names or nicknames only, and either enter their contributions yourself or make sure a parent, guardian or teacher sets up their participant login. A parent or guardian can ask us at any time to remove a child's details.
8. Availability and changes
- We work to keep Sum Effort running smoothly, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of faults, and we sometimes need to take it offline for maintenance.
- We back up every night, but please keep your own note of any total that matters to you.
- We may change or improve Sum Effort's features over time.
- If we ever close Sum Effort, we'll give organisers at least 30 days' notice by email and refund the unused part of any paid period.
9. Ending your use
- Organisers can delete a tracker at any time from its edit page. This deletes its contributions and participant logins too.
- To close your organiser account, email hello@makesumeffort.com.
- Participants can ask the tracker's organiser, or us, to remove their login and contributions.
10. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
- If you're using Sum Effort personally, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We aren't responsible for loss or damage that isn't foreseeable.
- If you're using Sum Effort for a business, charity, school, club or other organisation, our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us in those 12 months, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of donations or loss of data.
- We aren't responsible for content other people put on trackers, or for whether totals are accurate.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, and the date at the top will change. If a change significantly affects you, we'll email organisers or show a notice on the site at least 14 days before it applies. If you don't agree with a change, you can stop using Sum Effort, and we'll refund the unused part of any paid period.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
